GWC names 2022 Presidential Scholarship recipient
Marianne Abante, of Gurnee, Ill., has been named a Presidential Scholar at George Williams College of Aurora University (GWC). Abante is this year’s recipient of the prestigious four-year, full-tuition scholarship, which was established for first-time freshmen who earned a minimum high school grade point average of 3.00.
A recent graduate of Warren Township High School, Abante will major in nursing at GWC beginning in the fall 2022 semester. GWC’s innovative nursing program features state-of-the-art nursing skills and simulation labs to provide students and faculty with cutting-edge learning and teaching environments. Operating in conjunction with Aurora University’s longtime nursing program in Aurora, Ill., the program seeks to fill a rising demand for highly qualified nurses in the region.
“I’m proud to be the recipient of this year’s Presidential Scholarship,” said Abante. “From a financial standpoint, it will be a huge relief for me and my parents. In terms of academics, the scholarship will allow me to study in a small, inspiring learning environment where I can make connections more easily. The scholarship will also enable me to pursue my dream of helping people through the nursing profession.”
Abante was chosen to receive the competitive scholarship based on the strength of her academic accomplishments, a detailed application, an interview and an essay.
“We are excited that Marianne chose George Williams College and believe our nursing program will prepare her for a challenging and rewarding career in nursing,” said Kate Herrick, GWC’s vice president for academic and student life. “GWC prepares nurses in a dynamic and beautiful setting, and our graduates have high success rates on the NCLEX and in job placement. We are thrilled to help Marianne and other interested nurses prepare for the future of healthcare at an unprecedented time in history.”
