Field-Based Learning
Many academic programs at AU include field-based learning as a required and integral part of your education. These experiences give you the opportunity to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and put it into practice through student teaching, practicums, clinicals, and other hands-on placements. You’ll gain valuable insight into your future profession, develop confidence in your skills, and make connections in the field.
Professional Field Experiences
Whether you’re pursuing a degree in education, social work, nursing, or another applied discipline, field-based learning gives you the chance to work directly with students, clients, patients, or community members. These program-specific experiences, such as student teaching, clinical rotations, or supervised practicums, are essential to helping you meet certification or licensure requirements while building practical skills and professional awareness.
ACCA Cooperative Programs
Through AU’s membership in the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA), you can participate in unique, field-based experiences at renowned institutions like the Morton Arboretum or the Shedd Aquarium. These cooperative programs allow students in the sciences and related fields to explore environmental, ecological, and research-focused careers in immersive settings beyond the classroom.
